covid 19 statement

I know that this virus has caused some fear in the general population. To publish this statement is an effort to allow potential clients know how I am following our Department of Health and Governor's mandates for healthcare providers and running my business and practice.

In short: I am complying with the requirements set forth by the state.

However, specific details of any providers or employees/contractors associated with Skaidre Brown, Licensed Midwife, PLLC, will not be discussed. Healthcare decisions are private and autonomous and do not impact the ability to care for our clients.

Furthermore, I allow for all individuals I work with to make their own decisions regarding their compliance or desire to follow any suggestions made by the state.

I do not limit who can attend your appointments or your birth, that is up to you. I recommend if anyone has symptoms of illness to not attend your appointments with you or attend your birth. Your appointments and your birth occur in your home and you are free to invite who you wish.

One last thing: I do not make decisions based on fear.
If you have specific detailed questions, feel free to contact me for a conversation.

I have not posted on my website a COVID 19 statement yet. My entire schooling was focused on client autonomy and informed decision making. I hold to that philosophy. It never changed, even when the new virus emerged. If you have specific questions please reach out! The above document it the statement from the Washington Alliance for Responsible Midwifery, of which I am a member and on the board and on the Midwifery Advocacy Committee. This statement does reflect how I feel about this mandate.

I have not had experience writing a blog and plan to learn more about including videos and links to other content all about childbirth. There are a vast array of topics that can be addressed and I welcome any suggestions of things that you want to learn about! This post is short and mostly a welcome to my practice. I have a few ideas of posts that will include getting to know the vision for my practice, childbirth topics, and some things that are just about the life of a midwife, or just my life!
